Review of ‘Second wind’ by Ceillie Simkiss
This is a very cute and beautiful second-chance mature lesbian love story with women in their seventies, which is unusual in lesfic, but also very nice to see. I haven’t read anything by this author before.
In an instant, the lives of Pam and Martha change when they meet unexpectedly on a flight to Scotland. Pam is bringing a service dog puppy to its new family and Martha is taking her dead husband’s ashes to his birth town, Glasgow. They reconnect instantly after being apart for more than fifty years. They still carry their love for each other in their hearts and they were really best friends until they were separated at the age of twelve. You can feel the connection the two of them still have after all these years, and they fall in love again. But it’s also very nice to see the love Martha still has for her deceased husband.
The story is only about 100 pages and for that, we don’t get to know much about their lives, just a little bit about their families and that Pam is working as a dog trainer for service dogs. I would have loved to get to know more about them, including the love life of Pam, which isn’t mentioned. The story is nicely written, the dialogues and interactions are well done. The characters are realistic and endearing.
This is a sweet love-story without angst or drama just to make you smile. My rating is 4 stars.
