Review of ‘Solstice Moon’ by Diana Green
This was a quick and good lesbian urban fantasy novella by Green. This is my third read by Green and all of them have been enjoyable reads. She’s a good storyteller and I always enjoy visiting her fantasy type worlds. This time she took us on an urban fantasy adventure filled with supernatural creatures. While this is a shorter story, Green did a good job of world-building so I felt comfortable in that I understood everything enough. Actually, I liked this world quite a bit and I would be happy to read even more stories from it.
This book does have a sweet, non-explicit WLW romance. It’s a cute romance between a supernatural being and a school teacher. While the romance was a little fast, I think it worked for a short novella. The story spans from around Christmas to the summer so that helped the romance feel like it went at a good pace. I really liked both characters, especially Aves, and it was really easy to root for them as a possible couple.
I think my main complaint is I really wanted more. Green introduced interesting magical beings and I wanted to know what else could happen. She put a good amount into world-building and I feel like only having one short novella would almost be a disservice. I feel like both main characters’ stories are really just beginning and I’d love to meet some new characters too.
If you are looking for a quick, urban fantasy read, this could be a good choice for you. From Fae, shifters, and even demons, Green’s world is an entertaining one. I forgot to mention how much I liked Kat’s pets. They were so cute and I hope if there is another book they will be back too. This novella is currently available on Kindle Unlimited. 3.75 Stars.
