Based on the BBC radio programme ‘Desert Island Discs’, we’ve adapted this idea to ask castaways to list up to eight books, one song and one luxury item that they couldn’t do without on a desert island.
The rules are fairly simple, any type of book can be selected, but we ask that at least half are lesfic. Choices should be justified in a paragraph or two. Any type of music is allowed. The luxury item must be inanimate and of no use in escaping the island or allowing communication from outside.
Other Desert Island Choices
My Book Choices
A Course in Miracles
This is my spiritual text, and I would definitely want to keep up with my spiritual practice no matter how long I was stuck on the island.
Seven Moves by Carol Anshaw
This is my number one book choice because I have read it countless times and always find something new in it each time I read it again plus Carol Anshaw’s writing style is beautiful, and I never get tired of it.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
While I discovered this book only 3 years ago, it has already called me back for 5 re-reads, and I know I will enjoy it many more times. Soo it seems a perfect choice to have with me on an island.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
This is my all-time favorite work of classic literature. I love many things about it, but mostly I love the fact that it is written from the point of view of a 6-year-old girl.
Requiem for Immortals by Lee Winter
No matter how many times I read this book, I am always entranced with the depth and intricacies of the story and Requiem herself.
The Night Off by Meghan O’Brien
I chose this book because if I am going to be stuck on a desert island by myself, I am going to want a sizzling hot read every once in a while, and this one definitely fits the bill.
Perfect Rhythm by Jae
I love the deep emotional component of this read.
11-22-63 by Stephen King
I LOVE this book for its depth, the time-travel element, the historical concept and the length.
My Song Choice
American Pie by Don McClean: This one would be good because it’s quite long and there is a lot to think about in its lyrics. And who doesn’t want to sing “Bye Bye Miss American Pie” over and over again 😊
Luxury item
A solar-powered audiobook player for the 8 audiobooks I’ve listed. Since I am legally blind and cannot read print books, all of the books listed above would be audiobooks.
